The Fifth Asia Pacific Web Conference (APWeb'2003)
23-25 April, 2003, Xi'an, China



The Asia Pacific Web Conference is aiming at attracting professionals of 
different communities such as industry and academic from not only Asia 
Pacific countries but also other continents. The objective is to share 
the experience in the area of the World Wide Web with the underlying 
technologies and applications. Previous APWeb conferences were held in 
Beijing (1998), Hong Kong (1999), Xi'an (2000) and Changsha (2001). 

APWeb\xC3003 focuses on the following topics but other Internet and WWW 
related areas are welcome:
 
  * Data/application integration and migration
  * Languages and application programming interfaces
  * Databases and knowledge bases
  * Distributed and parallel processing
  * Component-based objects and middleware
  * Multimedia applications
  * Information retrieval
  * Data mining and data warehousing
  * Networking and communications
  * Peer-to-peer systems and grid computing
  * Workflow management systems and applications
  * XML and semi-structured data
  * Spatial, temporal and stream data
  * Information visualisation and web-based visulaisation
  * Query languages and interfaces
  * E-commerce and e-government
  * Web-based learning
  * Human-computer interaction
  * Multi-model web interfaces
  * Web services
  * Security and privacy
  * Ontology, semantics and agents
  * Digital libraries
  * Groupware/computer supported cooperative work
  * New applications
  * Web technologies for process management
  * Software development for web applications

PAPER SUBMISSION

  APWeb\xC3003 invites full papers describing original contributions in
all 
  fields of Internet and WWW related research and applications. A
submission
  should be no more than 25 pages double spacing (about 6000 words), 
  including all figures. Each paper will be fully refereed by at least
three 
  program committee members and judged on its originality, significance, 
  technical quality, relevance to APWeb\xC3003 as well as presentation.
All 
  submissions should be in English. Submission of a paper should be
regarded 
  as an undertaking that, should the paper be accepted, at least one
author 
  will attend the conference to present the work.

  All papers should be submitted electronically in PDF format (or less 
  preferably, PS or Microsoft Word) to the conference website. The title
and 
  abstract should be submitted first.

WORKSHOPS, PANELS, TUTORIALS, INDUSTRY PRESENTATIONS AND DEMOS

  In addition to technical contributions, APWeb\xC3003 invites proposals
for 
  workshops, panels, tutorials, industry presentations and demos. A
proposal 
  should indicate its area, its relationship to APWeb\xC3003, the proposed 
  workshop/panel program chairs, tutorial instructors and industry
presenters 
  (with a brief CV), and its target audiences. Proposals should be sent
as

PUBLICATION 

  The proceedings of the conference will be published by Springer in its 
  Lecturer Notes in Computer Science series (approval pending). Complete 
  instructions for authors regarding submission and formatting
procedures can be 
  found at the APWeb\xC3003 website. Papers will be accepted in five
categories: 
  regular papers, short papers, posters, industry papers and demo
papers. After 
  the conference, authors of the best papers selected by the program
committee 
  will be invited to submit an extended version for publication in a
special 
  issue of the Journal of WWW. 

BEST PAPER AWARDS

  The program committee will select one winner for the Best Paper Award
(all 
  regular papers are eligible) and one winner for the Best Student Paper
Award 
  (only the regular papers whose first author is a full-time student are
eligible). 
  Each winner will be presented at the conference with a certificate,
US$300 and 
  an invitation to submit an extended version of the award-winning paper
for the 
  consideration of publishing in the Journal of WWW special issue.
