の論文募集（英語版）をお送りいたします。

ICDEは、ACM SIGMOD、VLDBとならんで、データベース分野の三大国際会議と呼
ばれております。

論文アブストラクト締切は今年の６月２４日、本文締切７月１日となっており
ます。

日本から１編でも多くの論文をご投稿いただきますよう、何卒宜しくお願い申
し上げます。

Scope
-----
Data Engineering deals with the use of engineering techniques and
methodologies in the design, development and assessment of information
systems for different computing platforms and application environments.

The ICDE 2005 International Conference on Data Engineering provides a
premier forum for:

- sharing research solutions to problems of today's information society
- exposing practicing engineers to evolving research, tools, and
   practices, and providing them with an early opportunity to evaluate
   these
- raising awareness in the research community the problems of practical
   data engineering applications
- promoting the exchange of data engineering technologies and
   experience among researchers and practicing engineers
- identifying new issues and directions for future research and
   development work.

Welcome to Tokyo
----------------
The conference will be held in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan. Tokyo
is also the most populous metropolitan area in the world. From its
establishment in 1603 to the end of the 19th century, Tokyo prospered
as a castle town called Edo. Tokyo still remains as an exciting and
attractive city that is constantly developing. Yet despite its complex
urban landscape and impressive architecture, this city abounds with
parks and gardens. Particularly in the Spring season, blooming cherry
blossoms will welcome you to Tokyo. Well-known sites close to Tokyo
include the Great Buddha statue at Kamakura and the scenic Mt. Fuji.

Paper Submissions
-----------------
ICDE 2005 invites research submissions on all topics related to data
engineering, including but not limited to those listed below (the
corresponding area chairs are listed at the end of this preliminary
call for papers):

  3. Data Warehouse, OLAP, and Statistical Databases
  4. Mining Data, Text and Web
  5. Semi-structured Data and XML
  6. Middleware, Web Services, and Workflow
  7. Heterogeneity, Semantic Web, and Metadata
  8. Privacy and Security
  9. Stream Processing, Continuous Queries, and Sensor Databases
10. Database Applications and Experiences
11. Temporal, Spatial, Scientific, and Biological Databases
12. Distributed, Parallel, Deep Web, and P2P Databases
13. Data Management for Ubiquitous and Mobile Computing

Research papers must be submitted via the ICDE 2005 web site
(http://icde2005.is.tsukuba.ac.jp/) by July 1, 2004, in 8.5" X 11"
IEEE camera-ready format, with a 12-pagen limit.  Further instructions
will be posted on the Submissions web page of the conference web site.
All accepted papers will appear in the Proceedings published by the
IEEE Computer Society.

An award will be given to the best paper.

Demonstrations
--------------
Demonstration proposals should focus on new technology, advances in
applied databases, or new techniques. Demonstration proposals must
be no more than four double-column pages, and should give a brief
description of the demonstrated system, explain what is going to be
demonstrated, and state the significance of the contribution to
database technology, applications, or techniques. Proposals should be
submitted electronically by July 1, 2004 to the Demo Chair, Ling Liu
(lingliu [at] cc.gatech.edu).

Industrial Program, Panels, Seminars
-------------------------------------
Information for proposing Industrial Program, Panels, and Seminars
will be announced soon.

Workshops
---------
We invite proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with ICDE
2005. We solicit proposals for workshops related to the conference
topics. Proposals for workshops should stress how they intend to
provide more insight into the proposed topics with respect to the main
conference. The scope definition of the proposal should encompass only
some of the topics of the main conference.

Workshop proposals should be submitted to the workshop chair,
Masatoshi Yoshikawa (yosikawa [at] itc.nagoya-u.ac.jp) with the title, a
description of the topic, and the names of key organizers such as
program chair(s), by July 1, 2004. Prior contact with the workshop
chair is encouraged.

The organizer(s) of approved workshops will be responsible for
advertising their workshop, and for the reviewing process for their
workshop's papers, and for the collection of camera-ready copies of
accepted papers.
