The International Workshop on Data-Mining and Statistical Science (DMSS2008)
http://sigdmsm.org/dmss2008/

Date: September 25-26, 2008
Location: Tokyo Institute of Technology
O-okayama Campus, South Bldg. 2, Room S222
(Building #31 in the map below)
http://www.titech.ac.jp/access-and-campusmap/e/o-okayamaO.html

Aim:
Analyzing a wide variety of massive-scale complex data is the central
and challenging issue in the data mining community since the Internet
allows us to access such data in a fast and inexpensive manner. The
purpose of DMSS2008 is to bring together researchers from statistical
science and machine learning and have extensive discussions on diverse
aspects of statistical data mining. We solicit papers addressing
theoretical and methodological aspects of machine learning,
statistical science, and their relevant fields, which contribute to
understanding and development of data mining.

We have dealt with various disciplines of data mining in Japanese
Society of Artificial Intelligence (JSAI) Special Interest Groups such
as Knowledge-Based Systems (SIG-KBS) and Fundamental Problem of AI
(SIG-FPAI). On the other hand, there are strong requests from data
mining researches for more extensive and structured discussions on
statistical science and machine learning. In response to such
movement, we newly started the workshop on data mining and statistical
mathematics (SIG-DMSM). This workshop deals with statistical and
machine learning aspects of data mining, and aims at creating new data
mining paradigms. DMSS is an annual international workshop within the
framework of SIG-DMSM.

Topics of interest include, but not limited to, the following areas:
Statistical and Bayesian modeling, Data Mining, Machine Learning,
Probabilistic and Statistical Reasoning, Data Visualization,
Algorithmic Search and Reasoning for Data Mining, Algebraic Approach
to Data Mining, Data Base Architecture and Processing for Data Mining,
Applications of Data Mining and Statistical Sciences to Real World
Tasks, e.g., Bioinformatics and Marketing.

Special Issue on Data-Mining and Statistical Science in New Generation
Computing

We are planning to have a special issue in New Generation Computing.
http://sigdmsm.org/dmss2008/ngc.html

Original papers related to Data-Mining and Statistical Science will be
considered for publication. Submission to the special issue is not
limited to those who presented their work at DMSS2008. All the papers
should be written in English and formatted according to the designated
style available from
http://www.ohmsha.co.jp/ngc/instruction.htm

Deadline for the submission to the special issue:
December 31, 2008.
