[dbjapan] Research Fellow positions in Intelligent Information Technologies – University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania

The Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers (A&C) of University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania, invites applications for 5 full-time Research Fellow positions in Intelligent Information Technologies. The positions are in the framework of the FP7 project "ERRIC: Empowering Romanian Research on Intelligent Information Technologies" (http://www.erric.eu/).

The Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers is the largest and most prestigious faculty in the domains of Computer Science and Control Systems Engineering in Romania. A&C is constantly research-ranked among the top in the country and is already known as a national pole of excellence in Intelligent Information Technologies. The Faculty groups more than 120 people in its research laboratories and hosts the National Center for Information Technology with its high-performance multi-core GRID resource computing center. A&C has strong collaborative links with high excellence research units across the EU and high-tech companies in Romania and abroad.

In this context, the main goal of the ERRIC project is to empower A&C's existing excellence in research in selected areas of Intelligent Information Technologies: agreement technologies, semantic and collaborative technologies for the web, advanced Grid technologies, large scale distributed system services, and adaptive intelligent control.

A&C and the ERRIC project provide an opportunity for researchers in the above mentioned areas to accelerate their careers in a stimulating research-focused environment. As a result, we are seeking to fill up five research fellowship positions to build further internationally competitive research programmes in the following topics:

  • Ambient intelligence for social interaction (010511)
  • Agent coordination and dynamic agreements (010512)
  • Autonomic storage for cloud services (010513)
  • Intelligent traffic monitoring and control (010514)
  • Intelligent IT for Robotics (010515)
Research activities will be carried out at the premises of the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers, in close collaboration with other researchers from the EU strategic partners of the ERRIC project, including short research visits to these universities.

The duration of the posts is 24 months, starting the 1st of September 2011 (or later). During this period the researcher will be employed by University Politehnica of Bucharest under a full-time fixed-term contract with full social security coverage.

Main Activities

  • Conduct research into the above mentioned topics.
  • Present results to members of the Department, to ERRIC strategic partners, and external audiences, to disseminate research results.
  • Prepare high-quality papers for journals, workshops and international conferences.
  • Be involved in the preparation of grant applications, in particular for FP7 calls.
  • Contribute to the development of an international research environment.
  • Assist with supervision and training of junior members of the Laboratory.
  • Carry out administrative roles as required by the project regulations.
Qualification and experience
Applicants should:
  • already be in possession of a doctoral degree in Computer Science or a closely related area and in a subject relevant to the post
  • have an outstanding research record in their field
  • show excellent capacity for independent research
  • be highly motivated and proactive
  • have excellent team working skills
  • have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and scientific report writing skills
  • be eager to disseminate research results by preparing journal articles and conference papers
  • have the potential to develop fund raising research proposals 
Experience with EU-funded research project implementation and grant application preparation is an advantage. Fluency in English is a prerequisite.
A competitive salary is offered, depending on experience and achievements.
